Degrees Of Separation is a book that details the awareness campaign of the same name. The campaign addresses the issues of unemployment and underemployment of black college graduates, with a mission to create lasting solutions through the promotion of career sustainability and entrepreneurship development.
Degrees of Separation (the book) gives an in-depth and eye-opening look into why many college students find themselves unemployable upon graduation. The book is based mostly on research, as well as Dr. Akerele's own challenges as a college graduate with two master's degrees and a Ph.D. who struggled to find a suitable job upon graduation. Through her own experiences and the experiences of her colleagues and the students she now teaches, Zakiya has compiled a list of ways students can better prepare themselves for their futures after graduation.
Degrees of Separation is still in the editing phase. Updates on publication and a release date will be shared when they become available. In the meantime, you can learn more about the Degrees of Separation campaign by visiting their website.
